Foragecaster
Foragecaster is a research project to help livestock producers with their planning, by providing forecasting tools for pasture and livestock, as well as estimating sustainability metrics.
Create grazing plans for different weather scenarios using weather forecasts and historical climate data.
Pasture predictions will use 7 years of satellite imagery, along with the knowledge of mob movements, to understand the true pasture growth. We will also understand pasture quality, not just quantity.
Livestock predictions will use machine learning across AgriWebb’s 60 million head of anonymous livestock data, collected over the last decade, to provide more accurate forecasts of the number of head reaching target weight.
Sustainability reporting will be made easy, integrating with existing tools to pre-populate data you’re already capturing in AgriWebb!
Led by AgriWebb, Foragecaster includes other partners from industry, government and research: Cibo Labs, FLINTpro, UTS, QUT, UNE, MLA & the Food Agility CRC. We are also working with ANU. The project will wrap up at the end of 2026.
What is the Foragecaster Beta Group?
Do you keep your AgriWebb data up to date? Are you interested in better on-farm planning?
We’re looking for interested producers to help out with the testing of Foragecaster. Joining the beta will allow us to share your farm data with our university researchers. This will be anonymous, though they will see your geo location so they can make sure the satellite readings are adjusted for your area.
We may contact you to partake in optional surveys or interviews to help us understand your operation and needs better.
In return, you will gain early access to the new Foragecaster features when they are available. Like the new Rotational and Grazing Planner released last year, Foragecaster will be doing regular updates of new features over the next 1.5 years.
