Connecting the Tru-Test XR5000 or ID5000

Steps to connect the Tru-Test XR5000 or ID5000 to AgriWebb.

Note: The ability to connect to EID hardware is only available on Individual Animal Management. For further information on this feel free to check out our Plan and Pricing page or contact the team.


The Tru-Test Datamars XR5000 and ID5000 are indicators that can connect via bluetooth to the AgriWebb Mobile App. It can also connect to a Stick Reader (such as a Tru-Test XRS2) via bluetooth.

The XR5000/ID5000 can only connect to Android phones and tablets, not Apple iOS devices.

Your Tru-Test XR5000 or ID5000 may require a software update and it is recommended that you ensure you are on the most recent version. You can download the latest version here.

Note that you cannot use the XR5000 or ID5000 with AgriWebb in a live session if you are not connected to load bars and recording weight. If you are only wanting to scan your animals, and not collect weight data, you will need to pull a CSV file from the indicator and upload it manually. to create your records.


Setup Considerations

The XR5000/ID5000 has 2 physical male connectors (Amphenol plug) that can connect to your Load Bars. It also has a physical female Amphenol connector to connect to power or for serial connection (e.g. to a panel reader).

It can also connect to a panel reader or stick reader through bluetooth.


Setup Options

There are various ways to configure the XR5000/ID5000 with AgriWebb.

If you have a bluetooth stick reader or blue tooth panel reader:

  • Option 1 (Android) EID on Indicator (Preferred)

  • Option 2 (Android) EID on AgriWebb

If you have a serial panel reader:

  • Option 3 (Android) EID on Indicator connected


Option 1: (Android) (Preferred)

You can use either a bluetooth Panel Reader or bluetooth stick reader in the following diagram.

  1. Connect the EID Reader to the XR5000/ID5000 indicator via bluetooth.

    1. Enable Bluetooth scan on the EID Reader

    2. On the XR5000/ID5000 select your EID reader (e.g. XRS2)

  2. Connect the AgriWebb Mobile App to the XR5000/ID5000.

  3. Start your session on XR5000/ID5000 and AgriWebb Mobile App.

Option 2: (Android)

You can use either a bluetooth Panel Reader or bluetooth stick reader in the following diagram.

  1. Connect the EID Reader to AgriWebb mobile via bluetooth

    1. Enable Bluetooth scan on the EID Reader

    2. AgriWebb Mobile App > Menu > Hardware Connections > select your EID reader (e.g. XRS2)

  2. Connect the AgriWebb Mobile App to the XR5000/ID5000.

  3. Start your session on XR5000/ID5000 and AgriWebb Mobile App.

Option 3: (Android)

  1. Connect the Panel Reader to the XR5000/ID5000 through the serial port.

    1. The serial cable may need to be purchased separately.

  2. Connect the AgriWebb Mobile App to the XR5000/ID5000.

  3. Start your session on XR5000/ID5000 and AgriWebb Mobile App.

Connection Setup

  1. Pair hardware with the XR5000/ID5000.

    1. Turn on the XR and navigate to Settings > Connections page.

    2. Turn on Bluetooth, the XR is now discoverable for pairing.

    3. In the AgriWebb Mobile App navigate to Menu > Hardware Connections

    4. Tap Connect new device.

    5. The tablet should find and list the XR5000/ID5000. Tap on the Connect link to initiate pairing.

    6. You will be prompted to enter a PIN for the XR5000/ID5000 - this should be 0000. Note that it is documented on the Bluetooth screen on the XR5000/ID5000 itself.

    7. Close the add connections page and the XR5000/ID5000 should now be listed in the connected devices list.

    8. Back on the XR5000/ID5000 the device running AgriWebb should be listed and Connected. Use the arrow keys on the XR5000/ID5000 to navigate to the device name. Press the Enter button to see the options drop down.

  2. Configure to send EID and Weight

    1. Select Configuration and press Enter.

    2. On the configuration page you will setup what the XR5000/ID5000 will send to AgriWebb. In the Output section select EID, Weight when weight is recorded.

    3. Press the Return button to get back to the Bluetooth Settings page.

  3. The XR and AgriWebb are ready to run a live recording session.


XR5000/ID5000 Auto/Manual Recording

Recording can be performed manually or automatically when the weight is stable.

Manual Recording

When an animal enters the crush, their tag will be read and their weight taken. Once the weight is stable the light above the Rec (Record) button will turn on and be a solid red.

To save the record and send the details to AgriWebb you must press the Rec button.

Automatic Recording

The XR5000/ID5000 can automatically save and transmit records for an animal. This removes the need to manually press the Rec button.

To do this go to the Settings > Recording page.

To do this on the ID5000 go to Settings > Drafting > Change other draft settings > Next > Step 5 of 6

Change the Record mode to Automatic and select ID is required, wait until ID is received.

XRS 2 Connection

If you are connecting the XRS 2 stick reader to these devices above consider the following configuration settings.

  • You'll likely want to connect the XRS 2 to the indicator rather than your mobile device. Pair the indicator and stick reader first.

  • On the XRS 2 make sure the Output setting is set to Default rather than Ticket.

  • Bluetooth settings need to be in Manual mode then under Advanced settings select Default for Connect Mode and Default for Output.

Live Session

To run a “Weigh and score” session you will first need to create a template within AgriWebb that has the weigh and score steps added to it.

Create a Record Template

  1. Navigate to Livestock > Record Templates and tap on Create new template.

  2. Enter a name and description. E.g. “Weigh and score”

  3. Add the “Weight” and “Score” steps. Order is important. Select weight first so that it appears at the top of the session card.

  4. Save the template.

Start a Session

  1. Navigate to Livestock and tap on the Create Live Record button.

  2. Swipe over to the Templates tab and select the template.

  3. In the hardware section ensure that the XR5000/ID5000 is listed. If it is not then tap on Connect hardware button to launch the hardware connection dialog.

  4. With hardware connected. Tap Start Session.

  5. Load animals, scan and weigh them. As stable weights establish the record will be sent to AgriWebb. Or press the “Rec” button if in manual mode.

  6. The animal card will appear. Tap on the appropriate score.

  7. Load the next animal.

  8. Finally, press on the Finish link to end the session.
