Steps to connect hardware via bluetooth

Updated over a week ago

Connect to your EID readers, indicators and weigh heads to make it even easier to manage your individual animals.

You can quickly review the full history of any animal on your farm on the Mobile App when using an EID reader. By connecting your EID device and scanning your EID tags the full details of the animal will immediately appear on your app.

To get started, check the manufacturer's instructions on pairing your hardware to other devices.  Check out our full list of supported devices in our Bluetooth and WiFi Connections article.

Connect to a device via Bluetooth

  1. Tap on the Menu > Hardware Connections

  2. Turn on your hardware (for example an  EID reader), ensure bluetooth is enabled, and that it is ready to pair with another device. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for specific steps of your reader.

  3. Tap Connect new device. The steps to connect to a device are different depending on your device.

iOS

The list of supported devices will be shown. Select the device that you are connecting.

If you are connecting to a Tru-Test S3 or the Shearwell stick reader the Connect New Device window will appear and AgriWebb will start searching for supported devices. When the supported device appears in the list, tap on Connect to pair it with the device.

For the other devices an iOS system window will appear asking you to Select An Accessory. When the supported device appears in the list, tap on the device to start the pairing process. This will pair the device with the phone. Click Connect to connect the app to the device.

Note: It is faster to re-connect a device via Bluetooth under Settings on your phone, then refresh devices in AgriWebb. The first time connection should be performed within the AgriWebb app.

Android

The Connect New Device dialog will appear and AgriWebb will start searching for supported devices. You may be prompted to Allow AgriWebb to access the device’s location. This is necessary for the app to search for any nearby bluetooth devices. When the supported device appears in the list, tap on Connect to pair it with the device

Pairing with a device for the first time might take some time. Depending on your device you might be prompted to enter a passcode. Refer to the hardware manufacturers instructions for a passcode to use.

Once successfully paired, close the new connection box.

The AgriWebb Mobile App is ready to read EID tags from the EID reader and pull weight data from an indicator during a live session.

Scanning EID's

Once the EID reader is connected, it is easy to access individual animals details.

Scan an EID card with your reader, the animals information will immediately appear on the Mobile App. Launch the full animal profile or create a record against the animal from the quick scan card. For further information see our article on Live Records.

If the EID scanned has not been entered into AgriWebb then it will show as an Unknown EID. You can then assign the tag to an existing animal or create a new animal.

Re-Connect a Paired Device

Once a device has been paired with the Mobile App it will appear in the list of connected devices. If a device has been powered off or out of range for a long time it will disconnect, and before using it again you will need to reconnect the device to the mobile app. Follow the steps to reconnect your device:

  1. Turn on the hardware device (e.g. EID reader). Ensure that bluetooth is turned on and the device is not already paired with another device.

  2. Tap Connect from the device list. The Mobile App will now attempt to connect to the paired device

Hardware Configurations

In general the setup scenarios can be broken down into two main patterns. Data such as the EID and stable weight is pushed into the AgriWebb mobile app from an indicator. Or the AgriWebb mobile app pulls data from the connected indicator.

If you are using a fixed panel reader attached to an indicator then you are going to be pushing the EID and weigh details onto the AgriWebb app.

If you are using a stick reader you can choose to either connect it to the indicator and push the EID and weight data to AgriWebb. Or you can connect both the stick reader and indicator with the AgriWebb mobile app and have the mobile app pull the stable weight after scanning the EID with the stick reader.
