There are two forage observation methods for Feed on Offer (FOO). You can select to manage your FOO either via kg DM or Stock days/DSE days (SDH/DDH).
To update your current settings, head to the Web > Account > Farm Management > Settings > Units of measurement.
Depending on the forage observation method you've currently got set up will depend on what paddock records you have access too.
The following paddock records are available:
Feed on offer (FOO): kg DM/ha & SDH/DDH
Pasture growth rate (PGR): kg DM/ha only
Target residual FOO: kg DM/ha only
Forage Utilisation (Wastage): kg DM/ha only
Mobile App
Please follow these steps to record the Feed on Offer in a paddock.
Select a paddock on the Map Tab. Press the Paddock Record button at the bottom of the page and then select Feed on Offer.
Enter the Date that the FOO was recorded as well as paddocks (if multiple).
Then fill in the Feed on Offer.
For SDH, enter the relevant value for the paddock/s.
For kg DM/ha only, you can do this manually or use the Estimate by Height button (ruler icon). This allows you to estimate dry matter by vegetation height. Simply choose the pasture height and corresponding kg DM/ha then press select. You can also apply the one FOO reading to all paddocks selected or do the individual reading for each paddock in the one record.
Note: The estimation ruler is dependent on your farm region and assumes an average vegetation quality. By default, the ruler is based on the MLA Pasture Ruler. For farms in the US, it is sourced from West Virginia University.
Note: To create a comprehensive Feed Budget, you may also wish to input Target Residual and Pasture Growth to determine your Grazing Days remaining
Add Target Residual (kg DM/ha only)
Target Residual will automatically be set to 0kg DM/ha. To edit Target Residual, select a paddock and press Paddock Record.
Press Target Residual and enter your desired Target Residual. Press Save to finalise your entry.
Add Pasture Growth (kg DM/ha only)
Select a paddock and press Paddock Record.
Press Pasture Growth and enter your Pasture Growth Rate and the date it was recorded. Press Save to finalise your entry.
Add Forage Utilisation (kg DM/ha only)
Select a paddock and press Paddock Record.
Press Forage Utilisation and select the paddocks you'd like to include in the record, a date for the record and the dry matter utilisation % for all or each paddock. You can also add a Wastage/detachment %.
What happens when offline?
When your device is offline, you will see a warning banner on the paddock summary to indicate the device is offline and some calculations will not be updated until the device is back online.
You will however be able to see the last known values for feed on offer, pasture growth rate, target residual and available feed on offer. While still offline, you will be able to enter new records for these values and have that new value visible on the paddock summary page. Once you are back online, any additional calculations for the grazing data will be updated.
If this is not the experience you have, please contact Customer Support.
Historic FOO Records
FOO records older than 6 months will not be displayed on the mobile app paddock history, however you will still see this on the paddock history via the Web App. If you are seeking out historic FOO data, please contact the Customer Support team for more information.
