Gallagher HR4 and HR5 firmware downgrade
Downgrade your HR wand to ensure a successful WiFi connection to AgriWebb
Updated over a week ago

The most recent firmware released for Gallagher stick readers is not compatible with AgriWebb wifi connections at this stage, however, we are working to fix this.

To ensure a successful connection with no drop-outs in the meantime, HR wands need to be on firmware version 1.16.11 or earlier. If you are on anything newer, please follow the steps for downgrade below.

PLEASE ENSURE ANY DATA IS COPIED OFF THE READER PRIOR TO A DOWNGRADE AS ALL DATA WILL BE CLEARED FROM THE READER DURING THE DOWNGRADE PROCESS.

Step 1: Create a blank .txt file

  1. Create a blank .txt file named debug.txt

  2. Download the Gallagher HR wand firmware here.

  3. Save in the same directory/folder as each other.

Note: Gallagher updater not compatible with Apple computers

Windows

  • Create folder for the downgrade process

  • Within folder > right click > new > text document > save with “debug” as title

Step 2: Update the HR Wand

  1. Plug your HR4/5 reader to the USB port of your PC

  2. Run the .exe for updating (double click the file called HRUpdater1.16.011)

  3. You may be asked if you want to run a software from the web, click “Yes”

  4. You may be asked do you want this application to make changes to your device, click “Yes”

  5. You may be warned that the device you want to update already has a newer version of the software (e.g. v.2.xx.xxx) and if you want to proceed with the update, click “yes”

  6. You may be warned that the updater doesn't support USB3, by all accounts this is false and the updater should still run on USB 2.

  7. Ensure HR4/HR5 remain plugged into your PC, and the update should run.

Note: It is normal for the updater to be ‘stuck’ on 99% for a little while

Note: When you finish the downgrade, it will warn you that your data has been wiped from the HR reader, this is expected behaviour.

Step 3: Double check the firmware has downgraded to 1.16.011

a) Once it is complete, a window will pop up reporting that it has finished the update.

b) Fire up the HR wand and hit the 'i’ button on the bottom right.

c) Hit ‘about’ in the bottom left.

D) Check the ‘App’ version number is 1.16.011

Troubleshooting

IF: The updater opens then immediately closes OR doesn't open at all:

  • Likely a firewall or security issue

  • Firewalls may be recognising the updater as malicious and the user will need to manually allow the updater to run on their system from their firewall preferences

IF: The updater begins and the ‘duration’ time is ticking up but making no actual progress AND/OR you get this error message:

User will need to adjust a Microsoft security setting to allow the app to make changes to the device (that may well be harmful to it), instructions as follows:

  1. Go to the ‘core isolation’ page in windows settings:
Start > setting > Update & Security > Windows Security > Device Security > Core Isolation > Core Isolation details

  2. Turn the ‘memory integrity’ setting to ‘off’ if it isn’t already.

  3. Restart your computer to have changes pull through

  4. Resume update.
